You know Mum and Dad seem not to have money worries. You presume when they die, you’ll receive an inheritance. However, you don’t know how much or when. Is this something you should discuss or not with your parents?
I would argue yes. Imagine you are in their position. Would you want to talk with your children about your plans? Would you tell them you want to support a charity? How would you like your children to sustain your inheritance? Would you skip a generation? There are many things to discuss.
If you feel it would be good to talk more openly to your kids about money, illness and death…is it possible your parents feel the same? If so, get together as a family and talk about expectations.
In reality, it’s not about inheritance, it’s about wishes and expectations.
