Do you think of a brain surgeon as a salesperson?

The answer is probably not. Associating a brain surgeon, astrophysicist, molecular biologist as salespeople doesn’t really come to mind …but words are interesting.

A wealth manager, financial adviser, financial consultant, financial partner are often terms used for financial salespeople. Yet, most people don’t use the term salesperson, but often that’s exactly what they are.

There is nothing wrong with salespeople, its about context. However, you could speak with a financial adviser who is a financial adviser rather than a financial salesperson. The problem is how to differentiate? How do you know when you are being ‘sold’ to rather than ‘advised’? It would be so much easier for consumers to understand what services they need if the job descriptions, like the brain surgeon, had more integrity.

The bottom line, you need to ask better questions.

Be curious. Be interested. Be empowered. It will make all the difference.
