Loosehead prop Joe Marler talks about confronting his mental health on BBC Saturday live.
Humprey is Joe’s psychiatrist. A name that amused Joe! In this podcast, Joe talks about mental health. It is refreshing as Joe explains how hard it is to talk about ‘stuff’. As Joe says, to be allowed to feel vulnerable. It’s recognising when you need help and can find the right help.
What has mental health got to do with money?
You can only really solve a problem when you recognise you have one. So many people know that managing their money for the future isn’t quite right…there’s something’s missing…there is more of a feeling of hope rather than understanding. But to make good decisions for your future, you need a better understanding. Better understanding often comes from talking about money and wealth.
Everyone will benefit from having someone to talk through their thoughts and ideas. To feel vulnerable but to know you are not taken advantage of. The hard part of the problem is knowing who to talk to.
If Joe was talking to a psychologist who worked for a drug company, might you not think if you were prescribed drugs that the advice was not quite as impartial as you expected! Your focus is making sure there is no link between who you talk to and being ‘sold’ a product solution.
